Audi TT Windshield Replacement

The Audi TT: A Brief History

The Audi TT is a compact sports car that was first introduced by the German automaker Audi in 1998. It has gained popularity for its distinctive design, precise handling, and performance-oriented characteristics. The TT is known for its sleek and aerodynamic exterior, which combines elements of a classic sports car with modern styling cues.

The first generation of the Audi TT was produced from 1998 to 2006 and was available in both coupe and roadster (convertible) body styles. It featured a unique design with a prominent rounded shape, inspired by the Bauhaus movement. The interior of the first-generation TT boasted a driver-focused cockpit with a blend of luxury and sportiness.

In 2006, Audi introduced the second generation of the TT, which featured a more refined design and improved performance. The exterior styling became sharper and more aggressive, while the interior received upgraded materials and advanced technology. The second-generation TT was produced until 2014.

The third and current generation of the Audi TT was launched in 2014 and is still in production as of my knowledge cutoff in September 2021. It showcases a more progressive design with sleek lines, a wider stance, and a distinctive front grille. The interior of the third-generation TT offers a combination of modern luxury and advanced technology, including Audi’s Virtual Cockpit digital instrument cluster.

Windshield Replacement Options

When it comes to windshield replacement for the Audi TT, there are a few options available. Audi vehicles generally require windshields that are specifically designed and manufactured to fit their models. It is recommended to use OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) windshields or high-quality aftermarket windshields that meet the same specifications as the original.

Glass Manufacturers for Audi TT Windshields

The specific glass manufacturers for Audi TT windshields may vary depending on the model year and location. However, some well-known glass manufacturers that supply windshields for Audi vehicles include:

  1. Saint-Gobain Sekurit: A renowned automotive glass manufacturer that produces windshields and other glass components for various car brands.

  2. Pilkington: Another major supplier of automotive glass, known for its high-quality windshields and other glass products.

These manufacturers have a reputation for producing durable and reliable windshields that meet the strict safety standards set by Audi.

ADAS Features and Windshield Replacement

The Audi TT may come equipped with advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) that enhance safety and provide additional convenience. These features can include lane departure warning, forward collision alert, adaptive cruise control, and more.

When replacing the windshield on an Audi TT equipped with ADAS features, it is crucial to consider the proper recalibration of these systems. ADAS relies on cameras and sensors mounted on or near the windshield to function accurately. Therefore, when the windshield is replaced, recalibration is necessary to ensure that the ADAS systems continue to operate correctly.

Recalibration typically involves using specialized equipment to realign and reprogram the cameras and sensors to the correct positions. It is recommended to have recalibration performed by authorized Audi service centers or certified technicians who have the expertise and proper equipment to ensure accurate recalibration.

Please note that the availability of ADAS features and the specific recalibration requirements may vary depending on the model year and trim level of the Audi TT. It is always advisable to consult the vehicle’s owner’s manual or contact an authorized Audi dealership for the most accurate and up-to-date information regarding ADAS features and recalibration procedures.

If you are not sure which options your vehicle has there’s a few ways we can help you out. The Vin number or vehicle identification number is usually the best way to help us determine what glass replacement part option you have. The vehicle identification number does not include a glass part indication in the 17 character vin code however it does help us determine which parts are specific to your Vehicle.

The factory build sheet is the silver bullet to determining the exact options however finding that can be difficult. Most glass companies can help decode the vin and determine the part however some companies do not ask and may instead ask you to take pictures and send pictures to them to help determine what you have. Another way to find out what options you have on your Vehicle is to contact the local Dealership and speak to the parts department.

They will ask you for your vin and then they should be able to tell you what options your Vehicle has. If you call the dealer make sure to ask them for the Dealer Part Number (If they are willing to provide you with that). Each Dealership is privately owned. Some dealerships are part of a dealership group however some have policies that don’t allow them to give the customer the dealer part number or factory part number. The dealer part number will help the auto glass shop match the part needed for replacing the windshield on your vehicle.

Once you have the dealer part number/factory part number you can also use google to find other dealerships that might have your windshield available and even at a lower price. In situations where the vehicle is brand new the glass may not be available to the local auto glass shop or parts supplier so the dealership may be your only recourse.

Other Questions to Ask Auto Glass Shops when getting quotes.

Here are some questions you should be asking as a consumer to help you compare price quotes from different service providers.

Questions to ask how long is your warranty?
What does your warranty cover?
Does your price include tax?
Does your price include mobile service?
Does your price include glass disposal fees?

Will you provide a pre-scan and post scan printout upon completion of the calibration?

Most quotes will be for windshield replacements using “ARG” or “OEE” Aftermarket Replacement Glass and Original Equipment Equivalent

*If you are getting a windshield replacement make sure not to wash your car for 48 hours
