Subaru vehicles equipped with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) require calibration after a windshield replacement to ensure proper functioning of the systems. In the USA, several companies offer Subaru windshield replacement and ADAS calibration services, including Safelite, Novus Glass, and Auto Glass Now.

The calibration method used for Subaru ADAS systems depends on the specific system being recalibrated. Generally, there are two types of calibration: static and dynamic.

Static calibration involves using a specialized target or pattern placed in a specific location relative to the vehicle to recalibrate the ADAS sensors and cameras. This method is typically used for systems such as lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and forward collision warning.

Dynamic calibration, on the other hand, involves driving the vehicle on a specific route that triggers the ADAS systems to recalibrate themselves. This method is typically used for systems such as automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert.

The specific ADAS systems impacted by a windshield replacement will depend on the year, make, and model of the Subaru vehicle. Some common systems that may require recalibration include EyeSight driver assist technology, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert.

Subaru’s EyeSight system is a camera-based driver assistance technology that utilizes stereo cameras mounted on the windshield to provide features such as adaptive cruise control, pre-collision braking, lane departure and sway warning, and lead vehicle start alert.

It is important to note that proper ADAS calibration is critical for the safety of the driver, passengers, and other road users. Failure to properly calibrate the ADAS systems after a windshield replacement can lead to malfunctions, potentially causing accidents or other safety concerns. Subaru recommends having the ADAS systems recalibrated by an authorized Subaru dealership or a certified technician using Subaru-approved equipment to ensure proper calibration.

Advancing safety is about anticipating danger before it arrives. That’s why Subaru developed EyeSight® Driver Assist Technology, one of the first safety systems of its kind. It can watch the road, alert you and even intervene if necessary to help avoid a collision.

EyeSight® Driver Assist Technology

Today’s vehicles use the ADAS latest technology to keep its drivers safe. Subaru is no exception with its EyeSight® Driver Assist Technology.

EyeSight® Driver Assist Technology is the culmination of everything Subaru engineers know about safety, and Subaru has sold over 1 million EyeSight-equipped vehicles.

Adding confidence to every trip, EyeSight monitors traffic movement, optimizes cruise control, and warns you if you sway outside your lane. EyeSight® has even been found to reduce rear-end crashes with injuries by up to 85%.

All tested 2022 Subaru models equipped with EyeSight® received the highest possible rating for front crash prevention by IIHS. The Pre-Collision Braking feature can even apply full braking force in emergency situations, helping you avoid or reduce frontal impacts.

The EyeSight® system uses a set of dual color cameras intelligently and unobtrusively placed near the rearview mirror. These cameras scan the road for unanticipated dangers.

This advanced system provides extra awareness, safety, and added peace of mind every time you drive.

Eyesight® uses a number of innovative technologies to help keep you safe, whether you’re a new driver or an experienced one.

Depending on the model and year, your vehicle may include EyeSight® Driver Assist Technology that includes:

  1. Adaptive Cruise Control
  2. Lane Keep Assist
  3. Pre Collision Braking
  4. Pre Collision Throttle Management

Adaptive Cruise Control

Available on select models, Advanced Adaptive Cruise Control lets you choose the distance you want to keep from the car in front of you while also helping you stay safe and centered in your lane.

When you set cruise control, you can select from up to four pre-set following distances.

Using the camera EyeSight watches ahead, and if it detects traffic is slowing, it can automatically adjust your speed to maintain your pre-set distance from the car in front of you. You choose the distance you want to preserve, and EyeSight® will automatically adjust your speed to maintain your selected distance.

Once traffic starts moving faster, it can automatically accelerate back up to your set speed.

It can even work in stop-and-go traffic. This helps you stay with the flow of traffic.

Lane Departure and Sway Warning with Lane Keep Assist

EyeSight® monitors your position on the road by watching for lane markers. Should you begin to drift or sway, the system will alert you before you leave your lane without signaling.

If you don’t correct quickly enough, the Lane Keep Assist feature can even intervene and help steer you back in.

Pre Collision Braking

Pre-Collision Braking helps you avoid or reduce frontal impacts by alerting you and applying full braking force in emergency situations.

With Pre-Collision Braking, EyeSight® constantly scans the road for obstacles and any stopped or slowed vehicles ahead. In an emergency situation, it can automatically apply the brakes and even help bring you to a full stop if necessary.

An IIHS study found that EyeSight lowers the rate of pedestrian-related injuries by up to 35%.

Pre-Collision Throttle Management

Pre-Collision Throttle Management, EyeSight® can help respond if a vehicle slows or stops unexpectedly. It detects objects in front of the vehicle that you are likely to hit. The Pre-Collision Throttle Management will reduce the power from the engine giving you more time to react and to help minimize the possible impact force and frontal impact damage.
