Acura MDX

The Acura MDX is a mid-size luxury SUV that was first introduced in 2000. It has become one of the most popular vehicles in the Acura lineup, known for its spacious interior, smooth ride, and powerful engine options.

The Acura MDX has been produced for four generations, with the latest generation introduced in 2021. The vehicle has gone through several updates and improvements over the years, including a redesign in 2022 that introduced a more athletic exterior design and advanced technology features.

When it comes to windshield replacement for the Acura MDX, there are several options available. The windshield replacement process typically involves removing the damaged windshield and installing a new one using specialized adhesive. Some of the most popular companies that manufacture glass for this vehicle include PPG, Carlite, and Guardian. These companies use high-quality materials to produce windshields that are durable and reliable.

In terms of features, the Acura MDX may have some additional options that require specialized services during windshield replacement. For example, some models may be equipped with a rain sensor, which is a device that detects rain on the windshield and automatically adjusts the wiper speed accordingly. If the windshield needs to be replaced on a vehicle with a rain sensor, it is important to choose a service provider that is familiar with the unique needs of this feature to ensure that it continues to function properly.

The Acura MDX may also have advanced driver assistance features (ADAS) such as lane departure warning, forward collision warning, and adaptive cruise control. These features use cameras and sensors that are typically mounted on or near the windshield. In the event of a windshield replacement, it is crucial to ensure that the ADAS cameras and sensors are properly recalibrated so that these features continue to function as intended.

There are two types of ADAS recalibration: static and dynamic. Static recalibration involves positioning the vehicle and camera in a specific location and using a target board to adjust the camera angles. Dynamic recalibration involves driving the vehicle to calibrate the ADAS systems. The type of recalibration needed depends on the specific ADAS features of the vehicle and the type of windshield replacement performed.

Overall, the Acura MDX is a popular and versatile luxury SUV that is known for its performance, comfort, and advanced technology features. With proper care and maintenance, including windshield replacement and ADAS recalibration if necessary, this vehicle can continue to provide a reliable and enjoyable driving experience for its owners.

The Acura MDX has an option called a rain sensor feature and this feature automatically turns on the windshield wipers when it detects moisture.  If you have this feature make sure you select windshield with rain sensor in the part type dropdown when getting a quote.

The 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2014 and 2015 ACURA MDX all have a rain sensor feature option. Please select the part “windshield with rain sensor” from the drop down menu if you have a rain sensor. If you are unsure if you have a rain sensor then you can provide us with the VIN when we schedule the appointment and we can confirm that you have that feature. Having the rain sensor feature doesn’t always necessarily mean that your replacement windshield will be more expensive.  Acura didn’t include rain sensors in the MDX for the following years 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013.

The 2005, 2006 and 2015 Acura MDX 4 Door Utility all have an option for an Acoustic Interlayer replacement windshield. The acoustic interlayer is an additional soundproofing layer that helps keep the MDX quieter on the inside. If you are not sure if your MDX has the acoustic interlayer then if you provide us with your VIN number we can let you know.

In 2015 Acura introduced the Collision Mitigation Braking System this is a system designed to tug on your seat belt and automatically begin braking if it detects objects directly ahead of you.  If you are not sure if you have this vehicle we can help you determine that by the VIN number.

The 2015 Acura MDX also can come equipped with a Lane Departure Warning System.   This system alerts you if you attempt to change lanes without using your turn signal.

If you are not sure which options your vehicle has there’s a few ways we can help you out. The Vin number or vehicle identification number is usually the best way to help us determine what glass replacement part option you have. The vehicle identification number does not include a glass part indication in the 17 character vin code however it does help us determine which parts are specific to your Vehicle.

The factory build sheet is the silver bullet to determining the exact options however finding that can be difficult. Most glass companies can help decode the vin and determine the part however some companies do not ask and may instead ask you to take pictures and send pictures to them to help determine what you have. Another way to find out what options you have on your Vehicle is to contact the local Dealership and speak to the parts department.

They will ask you for your vin and then they should be able to tell you what options your Vehicle has. If you call the dealer make sure to ask them for the Dealer Part Number (If they are willing to provide you with that). Each Dealership is privately owned. Some dealerships are part of a dealership group however some have policies that don’t allow them to give the customer the dealer part number or factory part number. The dealer part number will help the auto glass shop match the part needed for replacing the windshield on your vehicle.

Once you have the dealer part number/factory part number you can also use google to find other dealerships that might have your windshield available and even at a lower price. In situations where the vehicle is brand new the glass may not be available to the local auto glass shop or parts supplier so the dealership may be your only recourse.

Other Questions to Ask Auto Glass Shops when getting quotes.

Here are some questions you should be asking as a consumer to help you compare price quotes from different service providers.

Questions to ask how long is your warranty?
What does your warranty cover?
Does your price include tax?
Does your price include mobile service?
Does your price include glass disposal fees?

Will you provide a pre-scan and post scan printout upon completion of the calibration?

Most quotes will be for windshield replacements using “ARG” or “OEE” Aftermarket Replacement Glass and Original Equipment Equivalent

*If you are getting a windshield replacement make sure not to wash your car for 48 hours

Recalibration service is required on certain vehicle models

Removing damaged glass will affect the forward-facing camera attached to the vehicle’s windshield. To ensure this camera continues to work properly after service, the vehicle manufacturer requires recalibration by a qualified technician.

Most Auto Glass will recalibrate the camera during your windshield replacement but some may not have the equipment and try to tell you it is unnecessary.
