The 2018 Chevy Bolt has 2 different windshield options. The first option has a condensation sensor, Lane Departure Warning system and is solar coated. The second part type does not have the Lane Departure Warning system. If you have a Bolt that has the LDWS or Lane Departure Warning system that would require a Dynamic Calibration. If you have a Chevy Bolt, if you need to replace the windshield and your local auto glass shop doesn’t have the glass available you can purchase the glass from Chevrolet and most glass companies will still pick up the glass and come and install your windshield. When you call Chevy, call the parts department and give them your VIN “Vehicle Identification Number and Chevy only needs the last 8 of the VIN by the way. They will typically have to order the glass and that can take some time. Every dealership is privately owned and inventory and shipping times are different in certain areas of the country. We did some research and called Chevy in Elk Grove California and they said it was 10 days out. So ordering the glass takes time and remember the dealership doesn’t offer refunds on ordered parts typically.

Cause
This is caused when the front view camera module has determined that it is not properly mounted and/or there is a blockage of it’s view.
Condition
While performing the “Front View Camera Module Calibration”, using the scan tool (GDS2), it may not complete and set DTC B1008 Sym 4B.
Note: A replacement front view camera module must be SPS programmed before the calibration/learn is performed.

There were two or more software release levels for the Front View Camera Module (FVCM) used in the subject models.
Cause 1 | The earlier FVCM software could cause history codes U023A and/or U026A to be falsely set in the IPC and/or BCM. It is possible vehicles built with this software were previously updated to the second-level of software, resulting in the need to program these units again for Condition 2 or 3. |
Cause 2 and 3 | The later FVCM software on rare conditions could cause the FVCM to lockout during a power up or power down cycle preventing functionality. The lockout leaves the module powered on which could result in loss of functionality and could result in a vehicle battery stand time reduction to below 30 days. Like many modules, the FVCM will become warm during normal vehicle operation. A FVCM, in this lockout condition, will remain warm to the touch even after the ignition has been turned off for an extended period of time. This is typically a long enough period of time to expect it should have cooled down. |
Correction | Refer to the Date Breakpoints above and ONLY reprogram vehicles built BEFORE the stated BUILD DATES. In all cases with the above symptoms check to see if updated software is available for the Forward View Camera Module (K109), and update with the latest software in TIS2WEB. Note: If there is no observed loss of functionality, other causes of reduced battery stand time should be investigated using SI After reprogramming the FVCM with the latest software. If the vehicle’s battery was low, additional battery charging/testing may be required. |
Service Procedure
Important: Stable battery voltage is critical during programming. Any fluctuation, spiking, over voltage or loss of voltage will interrupt programming. Install the EL-49642 SPS Programming Support Tool to maintain system voltage. If not available, connect a fully charged 12 V jumper or booster pack disconnected from the AC voltage supply. DO NOT connect a battery charger.

There is new information available when it comes to windshield replacement on General Motors (GM) vehicles. In the past, forward facing camera calibration was not required when replacing the windshield. Let’s take a look at the new requirement from GM.
GM has changed the calibration requirement of the forward-facing camera, which GM refers to as the “front view camera module”. The new requirement for the entire GM vehicle line is to calibrate the forward facing camera. Per our contact at GM, the forward facing camera must be calibrated when:
- the windshield is replaced or R&I
- the camera bracket is replaced or R&I
- the FCM is replaced
- directed to by a service bulletin
This new requirement can be found in the vehicle-specific Control Module References under: Front View Camera Module Programming and Setup. The OEM Calibration Requirements Search and the OEM Glass Replacement matrix have been updated to reflect this change.
Front View Camera Calibration
When replacing a front view camera module (Fig. 5) on 2012-2018 GM models equipped with a front view camera, it’s necessary to reprogram the module as well as perform the calibration process for the front view camera system. The calibration process will not start automatically using the Service Programming System (SPS) and must be initiated with GDS2.
TIP: Refer to the appropriate Service Information to determine if the front view camera module requires programming and/or calibration.
The front view camera detects visual cues such as lane markings. On a system such as Lane Keep Assist, the front view camera module receives an input from the Lane Keep Assist switch and controls the Lane Keep Assist switch indicator output. The front view camera module also communicates via serial data with the instrument cluster, radio, and memory seat module to request visual, and audible or haptic alerts.
Calibration Conditions
Follow the calibration procedure listed in the appropriate Service Information. The calibration process should be completed within 3–5 minutes when the proper driving conditions are met. If the conditions are not met, the front view camera module will continuously run the service point calibration until the calibration process is successfully completed.
To calibrate the front view camera module, the following conditions must be met:
• Clean windshield
• Avoid lane changes
• Maintain vehicle speed between 35–56 mph (56–90 km/h)
• Ensure the road contains visible references (well defined lane markings, curbs, etc.).
• The Camera is properly installed. Verify it is snapped into tabs and secure.
No Calibration
If the front view camera module calibration is not completed successfully, check the following items:
1. Review the Manufacturer’s Enable Counter (MEC) parameter in the Identification Information data list. It must equal zero or the learn procedure will not function. The MEC is the third parameter from the top of the list. If it is not zero after programming, contact the Techline Customer Support Center (TCSC).
2. Review the parameter Front View Camera Learn Mode Status in the GDS2 FCM Data Display to confirm the Learn State value.
• If this parameter shows Not Learned, press the Learn button under Front View Camera Learn in Config/Reset Functions.
• If this parameter shows Learn Enabled, do not press the Learn button again. The Learn function is already enabled and the vehicle just needs to be driven.
• If this parameter shows Learned, the system is learned and operational.
3. Do not press the Learn button in GDS2 more than once. If the Learn selection button has been pressed, a second button press will cause the FCM Learn function to fail. (Fig. 6) Confirm state of learn by looking at the Front View Camera Learn Mode Status parameter.
